Weights and Measures

I use primarily Canadian/US imperial measures for most of my recipes. That’s just the way I learned to cook and these are the measures common in most of my cookbooks. You’ll find converters almost anywhere on the internet and in the indexes of most cookbooks, but just so you don’t have to go looking I’ve listed the most common ones below. Please note that there is some rounding involved, for the most part it doesn’t matter too much unless it comes to sensitive baking recipes. Also note that there is a difference between liquid and dry measures.

Abbreviations/Units:

  • tsp – Teaspoon
  • Tbs – Tablespoon
  • c – Cup
  • pt – Pint
  • qt – Quart
  • fl oz – Fluid Ounces
  • oz – Ounce
  • lb – Pound
  • ml – Millilitre
  • l – Litre
  • g – Gram
  • kg – Kilogram
  • F – Fahrenheit
  • C – Celsius
  • G – Gas Mark
